Allison looked around the cave. She could barely make out the other members of the survey team; there was very little light in the space. Next to her, Lieutenant Commander Renyo Ishi, the team's leader, was laying on the ground covered with a metallic blanket. Ishi's head wound was sloppily dressed; it was the best that anyone had been able to do with the limited medical resources available to them. Unfortunately, they hadn't been able to get back to their runabout so the were without proper medical supplies. Or rations. Or a comm unit. Not only did they not have a comm unit, but their communicators weren't working. Or, if the individual devices were functioning, the comm system on the runabout wasn't. Either way, they weren't able to communicate with the runabout or get a message off-planet.

"I think I've got the others taken care of, Lieutenant Waverly," Lieutenant JG Jaxon Tal said to Allison, approaching from another corner of the cave. Like Allison and Ishi, Tal was Starfleet. The remaining five members of the survey team were civilians. "Doctor Franze was very helpful; she was using her telepathic skills to soothe the more stressed scientists."

"Thanks," Allison replied. With Commander Ishi out of commission, she was the ranking officer. And, with the team operating under the auspices of Starfleet, she was now the de facto team leader. "How are we doing for rations?" When they'd been forced to abandon their base camp in a hurry, a lot of their supplies were left behind. That included food.

"Only four days of food left," the Trill hydrologist replied. "We've been rationing them for the last three days. We can cut back more and get another two days or so. Anything beyond that and we'll be having a rough go of it."

She looked down at the dirt floor of the cave, thinking. "Do it. We don't know how long before we can get back to camp or the runabout."

Tal sighed as he nodded his understanding.

"Do you think it's safe to venture out of here yet?" Allison said, looking back up to the Trill man.

"Doubtful. It's been at least 24 hours since we heard anything from outside, but that doesn't mean we can stroll out of here yet."

She shook her head in frustration and agreement. "We're not in any condition to protect ourselves out there. Since we missed checking in, Starfleet should be sending someone. Hopefully we can hold out until then."

"Hopefully they get here soon," Tal added.

Allison agreed. Silently, she was more than a little concerned that help wouldn't arrive in time.
