As Maggie and Leser left the brig, Leser's eyebrows went up. “Well,” he said. “That was certainly unexpected.”

“Right?” replied Maggie as they walked towards the nearest turbolift. “I thought for sure Dedeker was the one to start it. I wonder what he said to make Kemm snap like that.”

“I came up with a few ideas, but I doubt even Dedeker would say them,” confessed Leser. “He might be a douche canoe, but he doesn't strike me as specist.”

Maggie gasped and looked up at Leser. “You don't think...” she trailed off. “He wouldn't have used the N word! The captain was right there! There's no way he'd say that, even if he really disliked Kemm.”

Leser shrugged. “Maybe if it was personal,” he said. “Ya know, that kind of thing you say to get under someone's skin, but you don't really mean. Like, 'women are so emotional' or 'men have no brains.' It's just something to annoy the other person.”

“Yeah, maybe,” agreed Maggie as they entered the turbolift. “Sick bay,” she said and the lift started moving.

“I don't know how you put up with him,” commented Leser.

“I don't,” she replied. “I generally try to avoid him.”

“Avoid?” replied Leser, confused. “You two aren't together anymore?”

Maggie blinked behind her dark glasses. “Anymore?” she asked incredulously. “We were never together in the first place.”

Leser shook his head and blinked. “You weren't?” he asked.

“No!” replied Maggie. “Whatever gave you that idea?”

“That time he barged into Sick Bay and shouted, 'Mags! Daddy needs his girl!' and you came running,” he replied.

“Oh, for Pete's sake!” said Maggie. “No! He's just that big of a pig and I'm a doctor. If anyone comes into Sick Bay looking like that, I'm going to come running.”

“Hm,” replied Leser. “Most of the nurses are under the impression that you two are an item.”

“Ugh,” said Maggie as the lift stopped. “Don't suppose you could set them straight?”

“I'll see what I can do,” he said with a mischievous grin.

“You can't tell, but I'm rolling my eyes so hard right now,” she replied, and stepped off the turbolift.

With a laugh, Leser followed her back into Sick Bay.
